The People’s Republic of China Data Security Law was officially passed on June 10th, 2021 during the 29th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th national People’s Congress. The Law has come into force on September 1st, 2021. China’s new Data Security Law includes amenities on the usage, collection and protection of data in China. Possible penalty fines, suspensions of businesses and revocation of licenses or permits can all be consequences to violations. The Law focuses on cross-border data transfer requirements, compliance requirements on data intermediary service providers, protection of public interests, care for special groups (elderly and the disabled), ethics and morality.
